Junior Ruby/PHP Developer at The Dextrous Web

Located in London, United Kingdom. Posted June 25, 2009

The Dextrous Web is a young start-up, making its first hire. We’re looking for a Ruby/PHP developer to join the team – which is currently one full-timer and a collection of freelance designers and programmers.

You’ve made stuff with Ruby on Rails, PHP and Javascript. You know RESTful architectures and the HTTP protocol. You’re an XHTML/CSS wizard, you understand why this comic is funny and if your website got Slashdotted, there’s no way it would fall over. You know your way around a bash terminal. You’ve used JSON, YAML, XML, ATOM, RDF and all their cousins and you understand them reasonably well.

Visit http://thedextrousweb.com/we-are-hiring for more information.

Required Skills:

You’ve probably got a degree in a technical subject, but this isn’t required. Showing us that you’ve got solid experience is more important, but if you’ve got both, that’s a bonus.

You must have a solid understanding and demonstrable experience with:

* PHP, Ruby or both (We’d prefer both, but it’s fine to be stronger with one than the other)

* XHTML/CSS

* Javascript

* XML & XPATH

* SQL, preferably with MySQL and/or Postgres

* Apache and general linux sysadmin

* RESTful architectures and the HTTP protocol

Desired skills:

It would be good if you’ve got a good grounding in computer science and experience of:

* Subversion and/or Git

* JSON, YAML, ATOM, RSS, RDF, RDFa, Microformats

* XSLT/XSD

* Content analysis techniques; eg naïve Bayes, LSI or a background in AI
