We are looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our team in Data and Content Management. This is a very interesting position related to back-end processes. We need to maintain our current systems and may want to build rplacements in Ruby and Ruby on Rails. ( It’s part of the fun around here – really. If we can do it in Ruby – then we will. )
So if you land this position, in the first 90 days you’ll be helping to maintain and develop our back-end system processes. Once the processes are defined, you’ll be very heavy into managing the data and developing the tools – so you’ll need to be very database oriented too. So you’ll be called on to develop reporting systems, and tools & applications to facilitate management of the content.
Since our data is stored in MSSQL, you’ll need hands on experience with it. But you’ll certainly need to know your way around MySQL, and hopefully have some exposure to PostgreSQL too (did I spell that right?).
This is mainly a Linux/Unix environment and knowing your way around shell scripts is a must. You don’t have to be ‘off the hook’ or ‘senior level’ to be successful in this role – but you will have to be pretty strong in OOP (object oriented programming – spelled out for those who’re reading along but shouldn’t be). And, the key skill requirements include – Ruby on Rails, Object Oriented Perl, and C++. Python would be helpful too. It would be very good if you’ve got a handle on database development skills and information aggregation.
If you’re passionate about technology and development – and you really enjoy working in RoR (Ruby on Rails – again for those of you reading along that shouldn’t be), this could be a great opportunity to stretch you career to the next level while working at a stable, well established, and growing company.
You’ll also be looked at as a ‘subject matter expert’ regarding OOP. So you can show your mentoring skills as you lead the SWE’s in this group on an ongoing basis.
What’s the environment?
Casual to the naked eye – but professional to the core. We have brilliant engineers on staff. The dress code is relaxed and the environment is casual. But we have a lot of people that are passionate about our business and hope you will be too.
Primary Responsibilities Outlined:
• Seeking out and destroying bugs (fixing really – but destroying sounds so cool) in our current platform. Yes, it’s the maintanence part of the job. And it’s very important.
• Define, design, and implement data and content solutions that integrate with different information distribution platforms
• Develop reporting systems, tools and applications to facilitate management of content
• Identify and source new data and define approaches for data integration
• Manage content processing jobs and data extracts for distribution

• Implement and enforce rules for content usage as defined by product management and business teams.

• Manage and mentor other Software Engineers on the team
