Ruby Developer - Seattle - Growing Company
Our client is a successful financial services company with a significant online presence. Their online solutions and services include multiple web presences with distinct information services and educational offerings targeted at beginner, experienced, and advanced investment trading audiences. While the organization has a strong focus in proprietary trading, the company is very much invested in expanding its market focus within online media and web based automated trading systems.
Job Requirements:
7+ years developing web-based solutions
2+ years professional programming experience with Ruby on Rails on an n-tiered production deployed product
Fluency with C++, Java or C#
Must have excellent problem solving skills and enjoy a good challenge
Demonstrated experience/knowledge building high-volume and consumer facing web applications
Competent and knowledgeable with full software development lifecycle including design, development, testing, release, and the ability to communicate design concepts to a team
Demonstrated experience/knowledge building high-volume and consumer facing database-driven web applications.
Believes in test driven development
Believes in continuous improvement and refactoring of the code
Has felt the need to refactor something before
Experience building n-tier Internet applications in J2EE, C++, PHP or other related languages/framework
Experience with MVC architectures, XML/JSON and RESTful APIs, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and Ajax
Proficiency with cross-browser, cross-platform issues, and web standards
Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases and design
Experience working in Unix, Linux, Mac OS and Windows environments
Preferred Skills & Attributes:
Open source experience/development is a major plus
Familiarity with git
Experience working with social network data portability protocols like Facebook Connect, MySpace Data Availability, OpenSocial, etc.
Experience developing social network applications
Proficiency in envelope-pushing CSS-driven web design
Experience with Javascript frameworks, progressive-enhancement/unobtrusive javascript techniques and Javascript patterns
Believes in strong ownership of the work and good team player
Like to explore new technologies and specs, taking initiative to implement prototypes
Experience with Amazon Web Services and related technologies is a big plus (EC2, EBS, S3, AppEngine, Azure, etc.)
A B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science or Engineering is desirable.
