Ruby Loving Systems Engineer and Administrator at Zendesk

We’re looking for a very experienced Linux (Gentoo) systems administrator with deep insight in automating, building and maintaining a scalable infrastructure. Your work will involve benchmarking, configuring, scaling and improving search indexes (Sphinx), caches (Memcached/Varnish), databases (MySQL) and email services. You have prior experience from high volume setups, handling large amounts of data.
You are pragmatic and flexible team player, who will be working close with the development team in terms of investigating and testing potential platform components. You understand the importance of keeping things clean and tidy and have a methodic approach to troubleshooting and benchmarking. Ruby skills are a must.
Other than Linux and MySQL you have experience with at least a few of the following technologies (or a strong desire to work with them): Ruby on Rails, Memcached, Git, Sphinx, shell scripts, monit, RabbitMQ (or other MQs), SpamAssassin, Exim, Nginx, Mongrel, Apache, Phusion Passenger, GFS, Amazon EC2/S3, SSL, Varnish, Xen, Rake, deployment and automation tools (Capistrano/Chef/Puppet).
A lot of decisions will be based on your recommendations and it is thus vital that you bring a lot of experience.
