My client is a worldwide leading publishing company in their sector and they are looking for a talented Developer to become a member of their development team, which includes both in house staff and 3rd party suppliers. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Developer in London.

The ideal candidate will have professional experience building real-world applications using Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Java and Scala. The right candidate for this role will be very passionate about technology and its application to publishing, and will enjoy working in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities will include

• Developing new products and maintaining existing products, primarily but not exclusively with Ruby on Rails.

• Develop with a strong test-driven approach using TDD/BDD frameworks.

• Supply application level support on all website activity, includes support of all software related to delivering customer accessible services.

• Active involvement in weekly code reviews and developer forums.

• Learning and applying new languages and technologies.

They operate a 10% developer time and the successful candidates should be prepared to present and justify ideas to a board of senior staff and executives.

Candidates should a have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science but more importantly at least 3 years of professional experience in most of the following technologies; Ruby/JRuby, Ruby on Rails, RSpec, Cucumber, Java, Scala, SQL, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Linux, Mercurial.
