Software Engineer - Big Data at CargoMetrics
CargoMetrics is a Boston-based data analytics company and leader in the analysis of global maritime trade. The Company’s products leverage a common technology platform consisting of an advanced database, proprietary metadata and modeling algorithms. The company is looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented, team-focused software engineer to help develop the software infrastructure for a complex and distributed cloud-based application. The ideal candidate has a passion for large data, databases and advanced computing. The candidate will have prior experience with agile development environments and proven success in a collaborative fast-growing technology company.
Primary Responsibilities
● Assist with the ongoing design, implementation, and maintenance of the highly scalable cloud database infrastructure that is the foundation of the Company’s products
● Assist with infrastructure and product planning, including decisions related to advanced data storage technologies
● Develop quality, well-documented software that supports a highly available, fault-tolerant application
● Write software code that is easily maintained and extensible
● Create complex and practical tests for new and existing products
Requirements
● 7+ years commercial software development experience
● BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
● Must have working knowledge of a commercial software development lifecycle and have successfully completed several significant software projects/products
● Experience designing and implementing secure, reliable and low maintenance cost systems, particularly for financial firms or other security-sensitive organizations
● Experience with highly-scalable “big data” database and computing technologies including Cassandra and Hadoop
● Experience deploying to and managing cloud-based offerings like Amazon’s EC2 and Rackspace Cloud
● Experience designing, using and optimizing MySQL or PostgreSQL.
● Significant experience with Python and/or Ruby; willingness to use both
● Experience with Unix/Linux required.
