Starting Ruby Developer at Vermonster LLC
We have an opening for an new or new-to-ruby developer who is interested in becoming an expert Ruby and Ruby on Rails developer along with a strong working knowledge of the full web application stack.
We are a small, successful software consulting firm located in downtown Boston. Our team mainly builds web applications using (and contributing / extending) open source technology. Each of our clients and projects is different, so unlike a product company you will be challenged and learn new tools and techniques at a fairly fast pace. We follow BDD and outside-in development practices (using cucumber and rspec). We pair-program. We write our own devops tooling to automate things such as testing and deployment.
Much of our recent work is with the Ruby on Rails framework, but we use many other technologies — the right tool for the job. We take pride in developing high quality, well-tested and maintainable applications for our clients.
Understanding and thinking about web and software architecture patterns (especially MVC and REST), and how to possibly improve on current implementations of them, is desired. Knowing and having interest in another programming language, like Python, Scala, Erlang (or any other open source language with ties to web development) is a bonus. We aren’t a big consulting firm — contributions and innovation from each team member never go un-noticed. We look for strong values in honesty, judgement and leadership.
Ideally, you live or are willing to relocate to the Boston-metro area and can commute downtown (i.e. live within public transit). There could be some travel, mostly in-and-around Boston, as we do sometimes work at our clients' site.
We offer self-directed 401K with company matching, medical benefits and quarterly bonuses.
